WOW, it's been a wild week. We started off last Saturday with our truck dying. Not just a minor problem...a $6000.000 dollar PROBLEM....Yeah, right...that money tree took the winter off and we decided to buy a new truck. If we were going to put that much money into a truck that might not work so great next month...we had to do something different.
We found a diesel, 1993 Ford....white with red interior. We like to say "she" is vintage. Rye is dying. It's hard to be 16 and constantly embarrassed by your parents and what they drive. LOL Honestly thought, it was in our price range and that is what matters. We do not like having a car payment and this is a great deal for cash...great price!
We get this truck tomorrow. Why the wait, the dealership still does not have our truck put back together. We are frustrated, but hey...it's life and we just go with the flow. We rented a car. We also rented a truck today to move the trailer. We were successful in moving the trailer, unloading the hotel room and getting set up. We have named her Maggie...she is awesome! I will post pictures soon...
We also made some changes to our trailer. I have been inspired by seeing other full time families modify their homes. We were trying to keep it as is, for resale value...YAY right again...This is our home, we had to make it comfortable for all. When we bought our trailer we had looked at several with bunk beds, but they were always out of our price range.....yep, paying cash again.... anyways....I love our trailer but the sleeping arrangements SUCK. SO, we took out our two chairs and table and put a bed with two mattresses for the teenagers to sleep. We raised the bed and added a ton of storage. The kids will pull one mattress onto the floor and in the morning we will stack the blankets and it doubles as seating too. I will post pictures soon.... You have to learn to be creative. We love IKEA, finally. It was a love/hate relationship before. We have learned that there is a place for IKEA in this world...LOL
I also bought a stand (for the MAC) to sit on and it has 4 drawers. This was a huge life saver. It's a bit in the way of my side of the bed, but I am okay with this. I also don't have to lift the bed every time I want something.
We had a few surprises in the trailer...the refrigerator was covered in mold...I about died. It is clean now. Thanks to Cory. My gag response was on hyper drive. I cleaned the frig in the hotel. Fair trade? Probably not, that's why I love him...no complaints.
We love our new spot. We are right on the lake, with a beautiful view. The camp ground was half price for February. We also got a TACO discount. It's free and it will save you 15%. Keep this in mind if you are in Texas. We were greeted by a ton of ducks and birds. Now this might be a burden when we eat dinner outside, we shall see.
Tomorrow I will have to organize more. We will set the tent up, this acts as our toy room for Isabella. We all love it. Not all of the camps let us put a tent up, but this one had no problem.
This week has been filled with lots of decisions. I am so glad that the truck had it's problems now and not while we are driving to Washington DC. With every challenge, we were able to find a solution that was awesome.
We love our traveling life. We know that we will encounter these types of things so it's not so traumatic when it happens and when it does we just deal with it. We are enjoying our journey and not necessarily stressed about reaching our destination. It always works out! We believe in good things, have positive thoughts and listen to the small voices.
Enjoy!
Welcome to our blog. We are a family of six who love to travel, explore, eat and try new things.

LIFE...Religion vs. Spirituality
Disclaimer: I don't enjoy writing about religion, I do love writing about being spiritual though. With that said, I do sit and write what comes to my mind. This is what came out this morning. My hope is that this will be read with an open mind and that it will just stir a desire for everyone to seek what is important to them. It is written with the hope that we can each explore and challenge our inner perspective and inner self.
I find it interesting that people that can speak, often spend their time proclaiming ideas or thoughts that bring other peoples beliefs and ideas down. People that can express themselves positively, CHOOSE to focus on the negative energies of their existence. Why must we be motivated by the traditions of our fathers?
It has been my experience that if you are religious that this does not make you automatically a spiritual being. Often, it is easier to go through the motions, than to take a stand. It's harder to be true to yourself then it is to conform to a crowd. Seeking and desiring to have joyous and uplifting experiences is a hard place to find yourself in, if you are focused on what you don't have, what other's think, and spend your time judging others on their life's journey here on this earth.
I have read that it uses more muscles to smile than to frown, yet there are those that frown through this life. They frown upon all those that think differently than them. They frown upon politics, religion, race, sexuality preferences...the list is endless. It is often these same people that find life to be hard, challenging, or unfair. Unfair?
I love this, is life suppose to be fair? I personally think that we are here to meet our challenges face on and find the inner strength to make change, make a difference; not to criticize, tear down and judge. Judging is such a self motivating feeling and desire. No wonder we are asked to not judge. I find this in the topic or religion vs. spirituality.
I think that it is okay for us to have different beliefs among people. I think it is healthy for generations to learn about past experiences of those that have walked this life before. We should cherish our traditions of spirituality, but not enforce them upon those that do not believe the same. I find that when we learn about others, we are more tolerant and understanding about their cause and belief. We open up a line of communication to learn, to embrace and love.
Hypocrisy is not a flattering form of behavior. I feel that we will find this in most people. I will not say that it is something that can be overcome by easy thinking. It remains a truth; you must find it within yourself to be true to what you believe. It has to be YOU that makes the change to start acting the way that you believe.
I love being a spiritual person. I do not like being part of a religion. This is my truth. It is very limiting for ME, but I know that many are comfortable in this role, and for that I admire them. I don't try to change them, or tell them they are going to hell (first of all, you have to believe in that to go there). I love that we are all trying to find our place in this HUGE universe.
I know that my family will have challenges in this life. I don't believe the cause of our challenges are due to any miss deed, a punishment mentality, or even the workings of a satan. I believe life happens. Simple and plain. We attract into our lives that which we want to experience and enjoy. If a person is constantly looking for evil or satan in all things, they will surely find him there. If we want to be challenged with this life, those challenges will find you. It is how we handle those challenges and our attitudes that get us to the other side.
I am a firm believer that our existence is eternal. We were before, we are now, and we will be forever. This experience is but one small moment in the WHOLE picture. My desire for my family is one of joy, peace and love. These are the reason's we are here. If this means that members of my family need this within an organized religion, then great...but, if it means that they are able to find spirituality within themselves, I am welcoming to that too. It's a personal journey...religion vs. spirituality. PERSONAL.
Our goals should be to be the best YOU, find your belief, love your family and neighbors. Keep it simple. Find quiet moments each day to listen. Expect the best, look for the best and be the best YOU.
I am an individual with one opinion. I do believe in the power of a higher Being, but I do think that it is possible to get caught up in the structure of religion, the traditions, and the culture. I challenged myself a few years ago to find my spirituality while living my religion. I found that the two did not mesh for ME. Looking back, the experience was like walking through fire. I had to lose the religion to gain the spirituality. I am not saying this is for everyone.
I do believe that each of us must go through our own exam, so to speak, of our beliefs. I do think that it is expected for us to change, if the change is necessary, for creating a better YOU. I don't have all the answers for this discussion. I only know what is right for me and that is what I am seeking. I am trying to be a positive force and an example of love to my children.
I do wish for peace in this world. I do think it is possible to live with diversity. I believe that we are all spiritual beings living a physical life . This life is challenging, I am trying to find my way like everyone else.
I am living this life so that I can learn, listen and act. Enjoy!

Iheartfaces photo contest
Photo Challenge | Red
In honor of Go Red for women, Iheartfaces is having a photo contest. This is the photo that I entered. They have a great site, go check it out.
Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.
Go Red For Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives.

Learning...To See Again (Photography)
I don't see this world like many people do. This at times has made for some interesting conversation, blown-up arguments and at times a "run" mentality. I see things differently. I see things deeply. I see things hurting. I see things that are beautiful. I see life surviving.
I am learning to see better. I look for little things, little moments, little thoughts....little things that make my life feel huge, fulfilled and complete. One of the ways that I am learning to do this is with my camera.
I have been taking pictures for 15 years. I started when Rye was a baby and she turns 16 this month. It's been a long road of learning, meeting people and honing my skill. As soon as I learned something, then something new came on the market. I felt like I would never learn it all and never see success.
I remember one day thinking to myself after purchasing one more piece of camera equipment, that I was done upgrading. I was tired of trying to keep up with the latest and newest. With this said, I have purchased several nicer lenses and few more lights for the food photography. I have kept my bodies and really learned my camera. Everyone can take a good picture set on "P" but it takes an eye, style and the "M" setting to make a great piece of art. I have learned "how" to use my camera and not just "take" my camera with me.
I read so many books, looked at a lot of photography sites and talked to people from all aspects of the photographers market. I realized the other day that I have spent a lot of my time trying to be "that" photographer or "this" photographer instead of being and letting my eye come forth.
Having this break from my business has ignited within me a desire for capturing images. I have opened my eyes to everything around me. I feel that before I was so focused on one area that I limited my creativity within a certain field.
I have loved food photography and this is where I feel my heart lies. It blends several of my loves: cooking, pictures and dishes. When we moved and sold everything this past summer the dishes and cook books that I got rid of was crazy. People kept asking me why I had so many plates that did not match. I had to laugh. I do love my dishes and cookbooks and I know that some day I will have the opportunity again to restock my cupboards.
I feel that I am actually seeing things in a new light. I am enjoying the ride. I am learning that there is only a perfect picture, if, it's exactly what you want the picture to say. It's okay if it's blurred, tilted, over exposed, dark, etc.... If this is the look you are going for, then it is a PERFECT picture.
My idea of perfect has been changed from one look to many. What is a perfect picture to me may not be one to you and this is okay. I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if I think it's of worth, then it will be. The picture will bring me joy and through this others will learn and see the inspiration.
I am seeing that you have to put yourself out there if you want to be successful. Not everyone is going to "grasp" what you were going for but it does help to have honest feed back from people that you respect and admire. We are all teachers and learners at some point in our life.
I love photography and hope to have a long career in this field. I am looking forward to having the chance to reinvent my style, my look and even my approach. The time away is teaching me to be true to what I love to do and I feel that this will only help me to be more successful in life.
I encourage people to have fun with photography, take lots and lots of pictures. Learn photoshop so that you can enhance your images. You will need to know some type of processing program to achieve certain images. Working with clients, they will expect the choice to change. In the digital field, it is what it is. I like to shoot natural light and natural images...but, not everybody wants this. They may want flawless skin, to lose a little back fat or cut out Uncle so and so from the back ground. It's the name of the game.
Shoot first for the love of it. See the world through your lens and have fun creating fantastic images. It's a great hobby, an amazing job and an opportunity to be creative. I am lucky to call this field both: hobby and job.
I purposely used all pictures of Isabella so that you can see how one subject can be photographed and all the images can have a different feel, look and message. Enjoy!

LIVING...A Day in McKinney, TX.
It's been a long two weeks with the ice and snow here in the Dallas area. Thank goodness for the super bowl, they were required to have contracted sand trucks and snow plows, just in case. Well, we used them and we were feeling the need to escape after being encouraged to stay home while the storms passed.
Cory and I had been to McKinney before, but we wanted to take the kids with us. The downtown area is located in an historic part of town. I absolutely love this. The buildings all sit in a square with a large building in the center. The stores are all unique and have the most inviting spirit when you walk in. I love the old wooden floors, the aged walls and how each business has tried to keep the integrity of the fixtures.
We spent about 4 hours here among lots of people trying to do the same thing...enjoy the great weather and partake of this quaint little town. The restaurants were amazing! They also offered a magic shop, a candy store and a book store. I liked this because they had something for everyone, this including kids. I would say that most of the stores were centered around women's clothing and home decor. I would say that most of them catered to a higher end clientele but it was still so much fun to window shop, if that was your desire for the day.
Several of the shops, took my breath away. The design layout and the styles were beyond beautiful. I enjoyed just looking and taking in all of the beauty of their displays.
This is a must see if you make it to this neck of the woods. Enjoy the pictures below. I spent the whole day capturing my family through the lens. It was a treat for me to focus on the small details of my life. When I returned home and went through each picture, I felt the essence of the day expressed. My life has exploded with ideas and knowledge and my photographic skills are benefiting too, from this new sense of awareness.

| AH, the candy store. Mom & Pop CORN co. They had lots of candy to choose from. They had an assortment of the "old"candy that can only be found, it seems, at these fun candy shops. |

Learning....Dear Self
Why don't you listen?
Why are you seeking ME somewhere else?
I am...therefore, you ARE.
When I take the time to stop and listen to what my self is saying to me I find that it knows me much better than I realize. When I write on the blog, I write from this self that is so wanting to be heard. I don't prepare what I am going to write in advance, I just listen.
When I stop and listen, I realize that what I think about has truth in what I already know. I know that this is not easy for some and misunderstood by a few. We can attach all kinds of labels to this..prayer, meditation, time out....how ever we decide to take the few minutes each day necessary to listen, we should.
This morning when I woke up I tried to remember what I had dreamed about, listen to what I felt and try to wrap my self around this new energy. I felt peace and a calm spirit, as I do most mornings. I did not immediately understand what I wanted to say in this entry, other than it started with Dear Self....
I know that I sometimes get too busy with my own ideas, and yet I always have a small inner voice guiding me, arguing with me and instructing me. I am learning to listen to this "new self" more and more each day. I find that I am more at ease, more accepting and understanding of who I am. My self is a direct link to a higher power, whether you believe in God, Gods or divine energy, that acts like a phone line. Why would I not want to trust me, when I know where the thoughts are coming from to begin with.
I believe that we need to stop or we will be unable to be taught. We must listen or we will not learn. My own journey has been one of finding my new ears to listen to the awakened me. I believe that we are given this guide to help us seek out good, make a difference and be the best that you can be.
Of course, I am not so simple to believe that everyone is and will have the best of thoughts and ideas. I do believe in attracting them though and having a say over what we introduce into our minds and thoughts. I think this has a strong impact on our ability to follow, listen and act.
I don't succumb to the notion of a good and evil existence. I think that we are all brought into this life as good and through good you can make great things happen. It takes practice to change and to be positive. I am always learning to listen. I am enjoying this process of learning and listening. With my own experience of tragedies, death, ill will, disappointment, longing...I find that these were lessons I needed to learn to become better. I choose to accept all things in my life and learn from them. I choose to change those things I don't like. I choose to to be human, for I am here on earth having a human experience.
So, this morning when my self felt the need to remind me to stop and listen. I did. I have a long ways to go and I am slowly learning. I believe that we are teachable if we are willing to be taught, even if that teacher happens to be the still small voice within yourself...remember it has knowledge of your potential and it will help you in this life as it has in your ENTIRE existence.
Why are you seeking ME somewhere else?
I am...therefore, you ARE.
