If you ask my kids they will tell you that I cry while watching most things on TV. This morning I was watching a show called "Heavy" while running on the treadmill....crying. Yesterday I was watching "Yes to the Dress" while running on the treadmill...crying. I watch the news and most definitely cry..it's so sad. I watch any of the baby shows and cry LIKE a baby.
I don't watch scary or horror movies so I wouldn't cry of course during those, but chick flicks...it doesn't take long for the water works to start. I actually think my kids might be embarrassed at how easy I cry. So this morning I was thinking to myself "why am I crying...what the heck...." If I have to be honest, the tears are mostly for reason's of joy, happiness, heartbreak, or for someone being unfairly treated or judged...but mostly joy.
Growing up I thought that crying was a sign of weakness. I think I trained myself to not cry and I created walls around my emotions to be callous, hard, skeptical, black and white....protected. I protected myself from feeling the emotion that would make you cry because then I would have to really feel life, to love, to feel fear, to be charitable, to be forgiving or just be accepting in a world that I felt was unfair and cruel.
It was all about protecting myself. Crying was for babies and for people who could not deal with problems. It was a very cold and sometimes lonely place to be. So what changed?
I grew up, I allowed to love and to be loved, I started accepting people for who they are, I recognized that life is hard and not everyone deals with it the same, that life throws us curve balls that we can't explain, that their is more to this life than feeling sorry for ourselves and that to have empathy for someone is a deep connection that opens up a whole other can of worms, that I liked. It felt good to have that feeling of caring for someone or something besides your own situation. I often times feel that when I see something that brings a tear to my eye that I am being reminded that we are being looked after by a higher power and that we are able to find joy and happiness around us if we are willing to look for it.
When my Dad died I think it was one of the first time that I really cried. I was angry, sad and hurt. This opened up the doorway for me to realize that crying helped. It helped my to cope with this sadness, cope with the hurt and to feel better on those days that were really tough for me. I think I learned to open my heart more. My Dad loved life and I wanted to share that with him. He wasn't afraid of having an adventure and living on the wild side. By wild I mean through adrenaline...feeling life to it's fullest.
That is how I want to live this life... to it's fullest. As I have matured I find that I cry more easily because I am happy that people can reach their goals, find love, have babies, be married, find the perfect wedding dress, lose weight, reunite with family members or just be happy. Seeing happy people, happy situations, happy lives makes me cry. Joy is so hard for some to reach and hold on too that when I see it actually coming to fruition it brings a wonderful sense of love and joy to my heart. I love this feeling.
So crying for me is something good. It connects me with people. It gives me an opportunity to feel love towards mankind. It opens me up to an experience that I would not have had otherwise. It gives me a chance to see them differently, to try and understand their journey, to be accepting of them for whom they are. To ultimately laugh, grieve, smile, curse, react with them, so that I can hopefully understand them better. I want to learn from those around me and become a better person. Crying is one way that I feel has allowed me to love others more openly. It made me closer to who I was meant to be as a daughter of God. It allowed me to feel charity, mercy, hope, kindness and love towards mankind. Isn't that how we all want to feel and to be looked at?
so, Yes, I am a cry baby! I have seen myself from both sides of the coin and I can tell you that this side is where I want to always be. Live your life, be true to yourself and enjoy everyday....

LIFE...Best Friend in the World
Have you ever had the feeling of being so loved by someone that you just could not believe that you were the recipient of such love. That is how I feel everyday being married to my hubby.
It really made my day! I know Valentine's Day is around the corner and our anniversary is coming up but why do I need a "day" to appreciate my hubby when I already do everyday of the year and so today I pick NOW to say that I am married to a fantastic fella. If you know Cory, you know that he is gentle, funny, charitable and a great Dad....all qualities that I cherish and admire.
You hear people talk about their soul mates. I don't know if this exist, but I sure feel that way when we are together. We have been married for 23 years this year. Not bad for knowing each for two weeks before we were engaged and married two months later. That is a whole different story! It feels like only yesterday that we met. I love how we have managed to meld into one force and yet remain individuals with our own desires and passions. We have been asked over the last few years how we have managed to make it work. This is not an advice blog, nor do I profess to be an expert , or perfect...But, for us there have been things along the way that have helped us to stay happy, in love and best friends.
One day when our kids were 2 and 4 we were at a crossroads with our life...lots going on, too many people to please, too many irons in the fire and we were both at a point of boiling over...we had lost "us" in the mix of having kids, jobs, church and life.
It was a wonderful experience to be able to finally talk, open up and to communicate everything that each of us felt, desired, wanted, hoped for, longed for and more. We talked for hours and afterwards we never, ever let most of our thoughts, ideas or opportunities go by that we did not share with each other. We are chatter boxes and often keep each other up at night talking about everything. This is tough for some people to be completely honest and to be completely open. This take a tremendous amount of faith and trust. Faith that you will not sound "out there" and trust that the other person will respect and listen to what you are saying. It worked for us and continues to work. I love him more and more everyday because he lets me be me, encourages me to find myself and gives me a support system to seek out new opportunities in this life. I hope that I do the same for him.

LIFE...It's been a slow week....
I try really hard to have fun things planned for the weekend so that when I get ready to write on the blog I have something THRILLING, EXCITING and FUN to write about. Well, the weather did not get the memo in regards to the weather that we needed for this weekends activities. OH WELL. We will try again next week.
With that said, it really has been a slow week of playing games, picking up toys, practicing flute, exercising, cooking, cleaning, writing in my journal, walking the dog, grocery shopping, and laundry.
One of my goals this year was to write in my journal everyday. There are several reason's that I chose to work on this for the year. One, is it helps me to stay sane. I have a tendency to relive, over think and beat myself up over small things, big things, medium size things (pretty much most things). I find that when I have this dilemma of sorts, it makes me very irritable and at times melancholy. These are two feelings that I don't like to have. SO, I decided to write it out of my system and it actually works. Everyday I write exactly how I am feeling and if anything is bothering me. I find that when I can purge my brain of the chaos of my thoughts I enjoy my day much better and once it's on paper I tend to move on...It's great!
The second reason is that a lot of times when I am wrangling with a thought and I write it down, then I can focus more on my family and not on myself. I have a tendency to believe that I can solve the worlds problems all in the very confines of my brain...this becomes tiresome and it keeps me up at night. I need my sleep and therefore I need to empty my brain of the daily power plans of life. Not to mention it will provide some entertainment to my future family when they finally break them out over a Christmas celebration to see exactly what crazy great-grandma Sherron was thinking...LOL
I have also been able to write down funny quotes that Isabella says, things the teenagers are doing or saying and just the joys of my life. Everyday I try to set a small goal for myself and then I make a notation the next day if I reached it or not. This last week it was how much water I could drink each day. I am terrible at drinking water...When I reached my goals this made me feel like I had accomplished something new for that day.
Some of the funny things Isabella has said this week are:
Don't talk to strangers Rye and Drake...she is worried for their safety.
I speak spanish, I speak spanish...She watches Dora and therefore is an expert in the Spanish language..LOL
I am a doctor....hmmm, not sure where she got that one, but okay.
The biggest event this week for me was cutting off all of my hair. I did it AND I love it. I failed to take my camera with me to the salon. The pile of hair was huge! I was a little bit nervous but totally confident in my decision. The nervous part came from knowing what I wanted but not being able to find a picture of the exact look. I spent about 20 minutes with the colorist and stylist and together we put together what I ended up with. I will say it again, I love it. I actually cried when the hairstyle was cut, it was perfect and Annie had hit the mark. The color was a bit scary, it was soooooo dark while setting. It almost looked black but when we rinsed, dried and styled I knew we had made some good choices. It took three different shades of copper to achieve the blended look I have. I can't say that this was a cheap haircut...it wasn't! The price tag was $250.00. (this included : haircut/style, color (three), 2 shampoos, wax creme and a new brush and tips for each of the young women that helped me). I have never spent this amount on my hair but I knew I needed it to be done right and I feel it was. Having a great experience with something this personal (I have had long hair most of my life, it was time to let it go and stop hiding behind my long hair) to me was priceless.....
I hope that everyone has a great week and live your life now...don't live in limbo, don't live in the past, don't worry about the future...LIVE NOW!!!! Just do it, I guess Nike got that one right!..LOL

LIVING...Medieval Times in Dallas
We have had a great week, full of fun and memories. This past week Rye came home from Utah. She had a lot of fun reuniting with her besties and seeing her grandparents. We are glad that she had such a good time but are SOOOOOO glad that she is back with us. I wonder what I am going to do in a few years when she leaves to go to college...2 years will go by so fast. I know that there will be holidays and maybe even a weekend or two but our family will change with her not being here with us constantly. My friends have survived and I know I will too.
On Saturday we took the family to Medieval Times. We had a blast and it was worth every penny. The older kids have been once before but that was 10 years ago and they did not remember much. This time we had Isabella and she was in her element. Every where we went it was "Princess this...", "Princess that..." and on and on. She was in heaven with her frilly dress, knights and beautiful hair peice, that she had to have to complete her "LOOK". The older kids each got a sword (the hotel should love us for that!").
We were seated in the green knights cheering section. It turned out that he was the bad guy for this show and so we were very cheerful until the very end when the kings men did away with him. OUCH! All in all it was a fun day out with the kids.
That night Cory and I went to Oklahoma to Win Star. It's a new casino they have just opened. We had fun listening to the live music and dancing. We love to dance! This week I am hoping to get us signed up for some dance lessons. There is a place in town that offers lessons and then they have get togethers. I thought this would be a fun way to improve on our skill as well as meet new people. I will keep you posted on our ability to be agile on the floor...HA HA HA...pictures will definitely be posted.
The most exciting thing today that happened is that we got about 3 inches of snow. Isabella want's to go out in the snow so bad, but we did not bring the right clothes with us to build a snowman. Maybe next time...(wink, wink)...The wink is how we lightly tell our children in an amusing sort of way that I heard what you are saying, the answer is no, but if I wink and say maybe then you think it's yes and I am lying in a very kind and hopefully repentful way....My kids have learned that when I say maybe then it is usually no, when I say something is interesting, it's because I don't want to hurt your feelings with the truth...kids are so smart! They figure out our silly parenting ways..LOL They definitely keep me on my toes.
I hope that everyone has a fantastic week!

We arrived early so we take pictures and enjoy the ambiance of the big hall. They had armor, swords and coats of arms in a large room. It was fun to see some of these things up close.

A few of Princess Isabella's admirers. They were great with the kids that came to see the show. There were kids everywhere...lots of birthdays being celebrated that night.

This picture was taken just as it had started to snow, we ended up with enough for one family to build a huge snowman in the middle of the park.

Drake and his curly hair. He is learning to work with it but it's a constant struggle for him to keep it curly and not frizzy.

Isabella's knight through a pink carnation to her from the arena, she was very excited.

This is the same type of horse exhibiting it's ability to "dance"...very beautiful.

Isabella and I with our donuts (as Cory call's them)...I thought our hair was sophisticated and regal..plus our green hats fit perfectly over our heads..LOL
I hope that everyone has a fantastic week!

LIFE...What Not to Wear...my search for looking great with what I have to work with!
Have you ever seen that show What Not To Wear? Well , I just watched it for the first time and LOVE it! This year I decided to love my body for the shape and size it is and not spend the whole year beating myself up because I am not a skinny size 4 or 6. Not that there is anything wrong with these sizes. I have lots of friends that are these sizes. Some of them work very hard at maintaining this size and others it's a natural weight. The problem is that I am not them and I beat myself up because I don't look skinny like them...I am starting to hate this word SKINNY. I find that even the woman in this size group have things that they want to change or have areas of their bodies that they want to improve. I think that as women we always need something to work on no matter what size we are we will find something to obsess about.
I know that I do. Even when I get to the size I want, I still think that I look overweight. You have heard of beer googles..I think I have cellulite goggles on constantly. The other day I saw a picture of myself and thought, wow I look skinny....DUH, it is me...I am at an ok weight....I need to change my focus of what is underneath the clothes ; to focusing on wearing clothes that flatter the shape and size I am. FINAL!
In my past blog I wrote that this is the year I am going to focus on being healthy and not on dieting. I already have to eat very carefully with my gluten intolerance and it drives me to insanity trying to cut out all wheat, rye and barley products. This is so hard to do. When I do binge and eat wheat it causes my stomach to bloat. I know what I need to do to keep my stomach flat, but boy is it hard!! I love food it's that plain and simple. So, I have decided to watch what I eat (but not diet) and exercise everyday. My goal is to firm up and stay active for my kids. This sounds pretty simple to do, RIGHT? I need everyone to be shaking their head and saying " Yes, Sherron this is simple and you can do it"...LOL Way to go team!
I used to love to shop, until I recently went and found that I am stuck in no mans land (or no-womans land). Have you ever heard of it before...the place between Forever 21 and Chico's. I am 42 and don't know what looks good on me. I am having a clothing crisis at my house and don't know what to do about it, until recently that is. I decided to take matters into my hands and do some research. I don't have a personal stylist, a $5000 gift card to splurge with or even a shopping buddy at the moment to help me with simple style decisions. So, like any techno-friendly woman of the year 2011 I turned to the internet and started searching for things that I could do to help my "situation". It turns out that I am doing some things right and somethings not. So here is what I have learned and how it's going to help me to feel good, sexy and alive about the clothes that I wear.
That's right ladies, I said sexy. Just because we are over the 40 mark does not mean that we are not sexy anymore. It's all in the eyes of the beholder and my beholder (Cory) tells me that I am sexy. In the movie EAT PRAY LOVE, Julia Roberts friend is upset because she has eaten a ton of pasta and put on some weight. I love Julia's characters response. She says "have you ever stood nude in front of a man and had him tell you to leave?" In most instances the answer is going to be NO! ( I am sorry if you have had a bad experience other than a NO, that is a whole other blog entry) Men do like curves. It's okay to have curves. I tell people all the time that I am curvy. I often say that if I had lived in the early 1700's my body would have been perfect...check out the art work ladies, they were curvy.
Here is my list of things that I found that have improved my appearance and my self esteem about how this body looks:
BRA: If you do not have a great fitting bra then you need to go to your drawer immediately, throw them away and spend the money to buy one GOOD bra...it will change your life. I have struggled with this for a few years. After I had Isabella, "the girls" did not return to the original format....bummer but it happens. I struggled with saggy 'girls'...I said it!! I am going to tell you of a store that will change your life...SOMA INTIMATES. These are the best bra's ever. "THE GIRLS" now sit up, take notice and sometimes I can't even see my feet...yay, it's that good! Just do it, they often have sales and they are worth every penny. I can't wait to go bra shopping now.
SPANKS: I did it, I bought them! I don't wear them all the time but when I do it's because I want to have things tight, smooth and well put together. They work...it's that simple, again. Work with what you have and search after what you need to make it work FOR YOU and your shape and size.
HEELS: Ladies you have to get up there! If you put a pair of heels on they make you look thinner, especially if you buy the jeans with the longer legs that go to the floor. When you walk in, all they see will be legs, legs and legs...there is the sexy coming out! I once walked for hours in my 6 inch high heel shoes. My feet were numb as long as I stayed standing...LOL My husband could not take his eyes off me. That made me feel younger, great and it didn't matter what size I was. Love my heels. But don't get the 6 inch high heels unless you have had some practice. Any size will do, just add some height...it works.
BODY SHAPE: It helped me to find out what shape I was and then I searched what types of clothes looked right on me. I found that somethings I wear I chose correctly and others I chose not quite up to par. Tonight I went and bought the right type of jeans and Cory was amazed at the change. He loved them and it was something that I would have never tried on before until I did the research. My shape is the hour glass, I have big hips and big "girls" to deal with. This makes buying clothes a nightmare. I learned from watching What Not to Wear, that most clothes will need to be altered because they are not made to fit just right. GOOD TO KNOW! My waist is not as defined as I would like it to be, but that will come with exercising and if it doesn't...oh well. This is the year for being happy with what I have to work with.
FOCUS POINTS: This is an interesting thing to think about. Where do you want other peoples eye's to fall on you when you go out in public. At you chest, your waist, your feet? There are actually things that you can do to enhance your look to draw the eyes to your best parts. We all have them. Go to the mirror and find what you have that is great and steer other peoples focus to that area. Jewelry, belts, neck styles and pant legs are all examples of how to "direct" the show. Sounds crazy, but remember I am an over 40 crazy lady with strange attempts at satisfaction.
These are just a few things I have learned. I am not an expert but I am someone that is willing to research, take a chance and make a difference. I might even post some pictures this weekend...MIGHT! Ladies we all come in different sizes and shapes. We are women with beautiful spirits, many talents, shared passions and a desire to change, just remember that some things don't change like they use to and it's okay. Work it, work it, work it....Don't be afraid to change. I believe change is good. I know I needed one and it's already helping me to feel better about this earthly body that I have. Love each of you and just want you to be happy in the skin that you are wearing. ENJOY!

LIFE...Out With the Old and In With the New!!
All I can say about 2010 is WOW...what a year it has been for us. I think back to last January and I don't know if I could have imagined my family would be in Dallas, TX, living in a travel trailer/hotel throughout the year and have a unique experience with my family in tow.
I have read a lot of posts, blog entries and chatted with friends and family about how glad they are that this past year is over. I agree that the year was met with hardships, health issues, death, money woes and trials of faith but through all of this we proved to ourselves and each other that we are strong, capable and enduring individuals. We have proven to each other that "stuff" does not matter, "stuff" comes and goes, "stuff" is replaceable. I learned that my relationship with my family does not change because my circumstance changes, if anything it is strengthened. I love anytime I get to spend with my kids and hubby and this past year gave us a ton of time together. I hope that my kids realize that 2010 was a year that our family CHOSE to be different, CHOSE to listen to the spirit and CHOSE to explore the opportunities that we have as children of a loving God to step outside of our comfort zone, and to be true to ourselves, our desires and our souls.
This new year is filled with possibilities...it's how we choose to accept life's challenges and obstacles that determine if this year is going to be one to remember or one to forget. I am looking forward to all of the experiences that come my way. In 2010 I experienced a great amount of pain by the death of my Grandmother, loss of friendships and health issues; but I learned to cherish my days of feeling great, to remember ALL of the great memories I had with Nan and to hold dear to my heart those friends that cared enough to stay and love me for exactly who I am.
To the year of 2010, I say thank you for showing me that I can endure, withstand, love and triumph with my family and Heavenly Father by my side. Life can be a challenge, but how could I ever savor the sweet, sweet feeling of gratitude, love and joy without, at times, feeling the bittersweet heartache of this life.
I have set my goals this year with learning in mind. I want to become better at my flute, relearn Spanish, take art lessons and try something totally new. I don't know yet what that will be, but I am sure something will come along my way that will challenge me, push me and make me a better person. I want to volunteer more. I am hoping that I can find a way to re-involve myself with quilting, music and tennis. I don't have any weight goals this year. It's not that I don't care, but it's no longer going to decide for me if I am a good/happy person or not because I am a size 8 or size 12. I just want to eat healthy and stay fit. I want to be able to keep up with my kids.
Today was Drake's birthday. I can't believe that he turned 14 today. Our time with our children goes so fast, at times faster than I am prepared to handle. I look at Isabella, who is 4, and I want to freeze her at this age but then I look at Rye and think..I am so proud of the young woman she has turned into and I can't wait to see her future and what it beholds.
Rye is in Utah this week visiting with her friends and extended family. I hope that she is having a great time.

Christmas morning!
We had the best Christmas this morning. The kids were all very happy with their gifts. I think they were a bit surprised with what they got. The rest of the day will be spent relaxing, playing, eating and sleeping. We were up way too early....5:30! Drake has not slept all night...this should be fun around 5pm tonight when he hits the wall from fatigue.
I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas!
We are having a blast with the Xbox 360...the kinnects is awesome. You get quite the workout too. My family is great!
